El Gran Cañón de Colorado, tierra de contrastes. Anoche nieve y temperatura bajo cero. Hoy nos despertamos con el sol y cielo totalmente despejado. El paisaje abruma por lo colosal. A la vuelta de nuestra caminata matinal nos sorprenden las flores que brillan tras la nevada y algunas ardillas diferentes sin embargo de las del E de EEUU. El frío fue excusa suficiente para gratificarnos con chocolates y dulces. Esta noche nos invitamos a una cena en el hotel, antes de una charla sobre cóndores. Pero ahorita, otra caminata por el borde del cañón. En la tienda del Campamento, nuestro centro de operaciones WIFI, nos encontramos con las chicas que limpian las cabinas del hotel, son del sudeste de Asia, Malasia, Singapur, en trabajos de temporada, me imagino. The Grand Canyon is filled with contrasts: collossal cliffs & tiny blooms; experienced adventurers & one-sock infants; super-ambitious hikes & watery walks. We are going on the Transept Trail this afternoon, after taking some shorter walks out to viewpoints near the Lodge this morning. Here's another contrast for you: cell coverage @ the Lodge but no Wi-Fi, and the opposite is true @ the campground. It was supposed to be snow/rainy today, but we got a bonus, though who knows how long the blue skies will last-- the weather changes more quickly here than anyplace I've ever been, so we are layering up & down all day. Here are some photos showing today's surprises; last night's was the below freezing temps the minute the sun went down, but the combination of sleeping in the van, with plenty of clothes on & our warm down bags worked just fine.
